A Diamond at 10 is the perfect symbol of clarity and endurance. It represents the hardness of life and the beauty of surviving it. As a soul geologist, I believe that our scars are like the facets of a gem. This A Diamond at 10 is my story of female strength after breast cancer. We find our true value when we decide to be transparent with our truth. Writing on Medium has helped me share this light with the world.

Priznajem, gladna sam tog odjeka.
A Diamond at 10: The Transparency of Truth and the Wind at My Back
I am sitting in my living room in France, and the sun has just decided to perform its final act for today. You know that moment when the light is so strong, so audacious, that it doesn’t stop at the window? It came all the way inside, it sits on my furniture, turning ordinary things into golden sculptures. I look at that reflection and I feel… surrendered. There is an incredible safety in that warmth caressing my face as I type these words, a quiet, promised fidelity that those rays will return tomorrow, no matter what I do today.
But, I have to confess something to you—right now, not everything inside me is as peaceful as this sunset. My impatience is showing its teeth these days. You know that feeling when you write, when you bare yourself to strangers on the internet, and that little voice inside you constantly asks: “And, what now? Where is this leading?” Writing pulls me into the deep, into the unknown, where there are no maps like the ones I used to use as a mineralogy engineer. I wish I were clairvoyant. That I could look into a crystal ball and see the outcome of the next hundred posts. That I knew exactly at which turn of the road the thing I am waiting for will happen.
I admit, I am hungry for that echo. Some say an artist should create only for themselves, in silence, not caring about the world. I say—that is a lie. Or at least, it is not my truth.
When I publish a post on Medium and see those 100 “claps,” those a hundred little signs that someone out there, on the other side of the screen, stopped and read a piece of my soul… that is a feeling without a price tag. There is no money, no euros or dollars that can pay for that “wind at my back.” It is that thrust that forces you to get up tomorrow, even when memories are heavy, even when the past tugs at your sleeve. That feeling that someone heard you, that your comment or your story meant something to someone, is what keeps me awake. I think other authors feel the same way, even though they might be ashamed to admit it. We are all searching for that human touch in the digital forest.
Throughout my life, I have learned that each of us has our own geology. We all have our states—sometimes we are soft as clay, tearful and susceptible to any pressure. Sometimes we are angry, sharp as raw flint casting sparks at every touch. Sometimes we are just gray pebbles in the river of time, hoping the water won’t wear us down completely.
My current state? Today, I am a diamond.
And I don’t say that out of vanity. I say it because I feel great in my own skin, finally. A diamond is a ten on the Mohs scale. The hardest. Indestructible. But what people forget about a diamond is not just its hardness, but its transparency. Today, I am transparent because of my truth. I have nothing left to hide. My battle with cancer, my divorces, my moves from Canada to Paris, my search for peace—it has all become part of my crystal lattice. I have become so solid that life can no longer chip me easily, and at the same time so pure that the sunset light in Versailles passes straight through me, without refraction, without lies.
They say in self-help literature that you should constantly change, discovering new versions of yourself. I agree with that. For twenty years I have been reading those books, absorbing ideas, traveling, meeting new people, and searching for what is truly human. I am open to everything natural.
My heart is not petrified; it has simply crystallized.
It went through incredible pressure, through tectonic collisions of emotions, and emerged as something that shines from within. Now, as the light slowly fades and the room sinks into twilight, I feel that hardness of a ten and that lightness of transparency. I may not know what tomorrow brings, my impatience may still bite, but as long as I have this wind at my back from you who are reading, as long as I can be the “Geologist of the Soul” and dig through my own depths, I have won.
My truth is my shine. And tomorrow, when the sun returns, I will be here again, transparent and solid, ready for a hundred new reasons to live.
