The Geometry of Resistance: Weight in the Mirror, Spite, and Letting Go of Cigarettes
Notably, I know that exact second. I walk past the mirror, look at me, and see a body that suddenly no longer belongs to me in the way it used to. Indeed, I see that stomach in front of me, a silhouette I am entirely unaccustomed to. Consequently, in that split second, in that cold reflection, I see nothing beautiful. Everything feels foreign, harsh, and heavy. This is my **Geometry of Resistance**.
Physically, I feel very, very, very heavy. Specifically, every movement carries a new, dull inertia, and my old clothes – the exact garments I have worn and loved for years, fused with my habits and my rhythm – now relentlessly squeeze me. Indeed, when they squeeze me, a pure, raw jitteriness awakens inside me. This is not sadness; it is a rebellion of the nervous system refusing the recognizable boundaries of its own skin. This is part of my Internal Crystallization.
And what do I do when I get annoyed? Ironically, I head straight for the refrigerator. Specifically, that is where the entire psychology of my extra ten pounds lies. The real reason behind this weight gain is that I quit smoking six months ago. Indeed, that is how those pounds found their way to me. I didn’t change my lifestyle overnight or start eating double portions for lunch; I eat lunch quite normally, just as I did before. Consequently, the void left behind by cigarettes had to be filled somehow, and it sneaked into the cracks of the day through little substitutes – in the form of three ice cream cones a day or an entire chocolate bar devoured in the blink of an eye. This is the **Geometry of Resistance** in action.
Notably, in that exact moment, while reaching for something sweet, a strange psychological mechanism plays out inside me. I am actually looking for proof. Indeed, I am looking for confirmation that it is impossible for a few small, innocent pleasures to change me this way, especially after I conquered such a major addiction like smoking. Specifically, I wonder how a few scoops of ice cream could disrupt the balance when I already fought the harder battle? Consequently, the cold truth strikes in the form of the number on the scale.
So I get annoyed all over again. Indeed, my trousers squeeze me. I lose my mind. Specifically, I go grab another chocolate bar to soothe the fury triggered by the previous chocolate bar. What a brilliant, inescapable circle of human contradiction. Therefore, this cycle becomes a layer of my personal tectonics.
Notably, even more interesting is this stubbornness regarding my wardrobe. I refuse to buy new clothes. Specifically, it is out of spite, out of pride, and out of a deep psychological resistance to giving legitimacy to this state. Indeed, I tell myself I will not waste money on larger sizes because I refuse to stay at this weight. I treat this phase as a temporary, unfunny joke that I refuse to participate in by purchasing new “uniforms.” This is the core of my Manifesto of Steel and Crystals.
And as for movement… that is where the real struggle with my own internal resistance begins. Specifically, I hear from all sides that the body demands activity, that physical exercise is the only salvation for blocked energy. Indeed, I find some tai chi on a screen – or something similar – and barely, barely force myself to even stand, take a stance, and push through it. Consequently, while my limbs resist and my thoughts wander in a thousand directions, I push through that sluggishness driven by the awareness that the stiffness must be broken. This is the **Geometry of Resistance**.
Notably, the math here is actually very clear, no matter how much we dislike it: those ten pounds are the price of trading one habit for another. They are accumulated from those “small, innocent” additions that require no massive changes to lunch, but rather the gradual letting go of those sweet substitutes from the fridge. Specifically, the most important step is to notice the moment when the brain seeks sweets as a defense, break that automatic circle, and replace it with something that calms the nervous system rather than feeding it sugar. This is my Geography of Grace.
Ultimately, there is no room here for embellishment or searching for cheap alibis. The weight is here, the anger knows how to quiver under the skin, and the ice cream occasionally waits in the freezer. Indeed, perhaps the greatest victory in all of this is the ability to stop, look at one’s own reflection without filters, and admit the truth to oneself. Specifically, I do it without false polish, but with that indestructible lucidity that survives even ten extra pounds. Slijedom toga, I know that if I could quit smoking, I can handle this **Geometry of Resistance** too. According to the laws of mineral stability, truth is the only foundation.
Specifično, svaki pokret nosi novu, tupu inerciju, a stara odjeća — ona ista koju godinama nosim i volim, srasla s mojim navikama i mojim ritmom — sada me neumoljivo steže. Doista, kada me steže, u meni se budi čista, sirova nervoza.
Slijedom toga, hladna istina udara u obliku brojke na vazi.
Pa se iznerviram ispočetka. Doista, pa me stežu hlače.
