The False Glow of Pyrite is a common trap in minerals and emotions. Many people are fooled by its sparkle because it looks like real gold. However, in soul geology, we know that The False Glow of Pyrite represents relationships that are brittle and lack true substance. I have learned to look beneath the surface to find real gold. Understanding this allows us to protect our hearts and find true Malachite Peace. This is the essence of my Shamanic Lessons and your path to authentic love.

Šamanske lekcije (Epizoda 2): Lažni sjaj pirita u modernoj ljubavi
Piše: Magma Star, Geologinja duše
Ako ste ikada ispirali zlato u hladnoj rijeci, znate onaj iznenadni nalet adrenalina kada nešto svijetlo i žuto uhvati sunce na dnu vaše posude.
Preživjele smo tektonske razvode, podigle djecu, izgradile karijere i prebrodile bolesti. Želimo bajku. Želimo nagradu.
A onda se pojavi on. Partner Pirit.
Govori sve prave stvari. Donosi velike geste, obasipa vas pažnjom, komplimentima i obećanjima o blistavoj budućnosti.
U geologiji koristimo “test grebanja”. Trljamo mineral o komad neglaziranog porculana. Pravo zlato ostavlja zlatno-žuti trag. Pirit ostavlja zelenkasto-crni, ružni trag.
Kako ćete testirati partnera? Uvedite trenje granice.
On će slušati, prilagoditi se i poštovati vašu autonomiju jer njegov ego nije krhak.
Partner Pirit će odmah ostaviti tamni trag.
On nije stigao s glasnim, filmskim deklaracijama. Stigao je s tihom, prozirnom dosljednošću Kvarca.
On je muškarac koji satima vježba moj materinji, hrvatski jezik, lutajući našim pariškim stanom i mrmljajući riječ “klava” samo da bi me nasmijao. On je muškarac koji me držao za ruku kroz tugu zbog gubitka majke.
L’or véritable laisse une trace jaune d’or.
Attendez l’or véritable.
Shamanic Lessons (Episode 2): The False Shine of Pyrite in Modern Love
By: Magma Star, Geologist of the Soul
If you have ever panned for gold in a cold river, you know the sudden rush of adrenaline when something bright and yellow catches the sun at the bottom of your pan. Your heart skips a beat. You think your life is about to change. But any seasoned geologist will tell you to pause before you celebrate.
Nine times out of ten, what you are looking at is Pyrite.
In the mineralogy world, Pyrite is famously known as “Fool’s Gold.” It is flashy, it is loud, and on the surface, it looks identical to the real thing. But its internal structure is completely different. If you hit pure gold with a hammer, it bends; it is malleable and resilient. If you hit Pyrite, it shatters into useless, brittle dust.
In my years of studying both the earth’s crust and the human heart, I have realized that the modern dating world is a riverbed overflowing with Pyrite.
The Dazzle of the Fake
Many of us, especially women stepping back into the dating world in our 40s, 50s, or 60s, are exhausted. We have survived tectonic divorces, raised children, built careers, and weathered illnesses. We want the fairytale. We want the reward.
And then, he appears. The Pyrite Partner.
He says all the right things. He brings grand gestures, showering you with attention, compliments, and promises of a glittering future. He seems perfect. He shines so brightly that you are momentarily blinded to the fact that his actions do not carry the specific weight of genuine love.
My first marriage was built on a massive vein of Pyrite. From the outside, we had the perfect Canadian life—the new cars, the big house, the successful engineering career. It looked like solid gold to the neighbors. But behind closed doors, the structure was brittle. The jealousy disguised as “passion,” the gaslighting, the eventual betrayal… it was all Fool’s Gold. When the real pressure of life hit our relationship, it didn’t bend with grace. It shattered into a million sharp, painful pieces of dust.
How to Perform a “Geological Scratch Test” on a Man
As a Geologist of the Soul, I beg you to stop trusting the shine. You must learn how to test the mineral before you bring it into the sanctuary of your home.
In geology, we use a “scratch test.” We rub a mineral against a piece of unglazed porcelain. Real gold leaves a golden-yellow streak. Pyrite leaves a greenish-black, ugly streak.
How do you scratch-test a partner? You introduce the friction of a boundary.
Say “No” to something small. Tell him you need a weekend alone to recharge. Disagree with his opinion on a topic. A man who is made of “Real Gold” will bend. He will listen, adapt, and respect your autonomy because his ego is not fragile.
A Pyrite Partner will immediately leave a dark streak. He will become defensive, manipulative, or emotionally withdrawn. The moment he is not the center of your glittering universe, his brittle nature will show.
The Quiet Value of Quartz
When I finally met my second husband—the man who would uproot his life and move with me to the quiet French town of Romorantin—I wasn’t looking for a blinding shine anymore. I was looking for structural integrity.
He didn’t arrive with loud, cinematic declarations. He arrived with the quiet, transparent consistency of Quartz.
He is the man who practices my native Croatian language for hours, wandering around our Parisian apartment muttering the word “klava” just to make me smile. He is the man who held my hand through the grief of losing my mother. He didn’t try to outshine my success; he simply became the velvet pedestal on which I could rest.
A Shamanic Slap for the Romantic Heart
If you are reading this and wondering if the person you are dating is “the one,” let me give you your second shamanic slap of reality:
Stop digging in shallow waters hoping to find a treasure you don’t have to work for.
Stop falling in love with potential. Pyrite has a lot of potential to look beautiful on a shelf, but it will never hold its value in a storm.
You are a woman who has survived the magma of life. You have crystallized your soul through pain, endurance, and profound self-love. Do not trade your hard-earned “Malachite Peace” for a man who shatters at the first sign of pressure.
Hold out for the real gold. Hold out for the quiet, enduring minerals. And until you find them, remember that the most valuable treasure in the river is already the one holding the pan: You.
