Toxic Nostalgia acts like a dangerous gas in an old mine. We often idealize ex-partners and past lives that were actually dark and cold. As a Soul Geologist, I teach you how to recognize this emotional trap. You should not return to old mines expecting to find new diamonds. The past belongs in the earth, not in your current heart.

You can support my mission and buy me a coffee on Ko-fi. My books about breaking free from the past are on my Amazon Author Page. Overcoming toxic nostalgia is the only way to reach true light. If you are struggling with silence, read my post on The Crystal Cave of Solitude. Let the old structures collapse so you can build something new.

Šamanske lekcije (Epizoda 7): Toksična nostalgija i opasnost starog rudnika

I često ga osjeti.

— Magma Star

Shamanic Lessons (Episode 7): Toxic Nostalgia and the Danger of the Old Mine

By: Magma Star, Geologist of the Soul

“In mining, there is one golden rule: Never return to an abandoned, collapsed mine shaft just because you found a small nugget of gold there a long time ago.”
— Magma Star
When a woman finally gathers the courage to leave a toxic relationship—whether it is a manipulator, a narcissist, or simply a man who exhausted her—she expects to feel immediate relief. And often, she does. The air is cleaner. The walls of her house are finally her own. But then, usually after a few months of silence, something very dangerous happens.
The brain begins to erase the bad memories.
It is a survival mechanism. Your mind literally washes away the sediments of trauma, pain, and gaslighting, leaving on the surface only those rare, shiny moments when everything was “good.”

The Toxic Nostalgia Syndrome

Then you start to doubt yourself. You ask yourself: “Was it really that bad? Maybe I overreacted? Do you remember how we laughed on that vacation ten years ago?” You begin to feel sadness, not for the man he truly was, but for the illusion of what you wanted him to be.
We call this state toxic nostalgia. It is emotional engineering in which your own memories deceive you.
As an engineer, I will tell you why this happens. When you have lived in chaos for a long time, your nervous system becomes addicted to the oscillations. A peaceful life where no one insults you, no one controls you, and no one lies to you initially seems “boring” to your wounded brain. That is why it starts romanticizing the past, digging through the old ashes in search of that familiar, albeit destructive, spark.

A Shamanic Slap for Women Who Look Back

If you are sitting with your phone in your hand right now, thinking about sending a message to the one who broke you, just to see “how he is,” let me give you a shamanic slap of love.
In mining, there is one golden rule, written in the blood of those who broke it: Never return to an abandoned, collapsed mine shaft just because you found a small nugget of gold there a long time ago.
The ceiling has caved in. The beams are rotten. There is no oxygen. It doesn’t matter how much you miss that one day when he was good to you. Going back for a crumb of a nice memory means risking being buried alive by the entire mountain of his toxicity.
Close that mine. Board up the entrance. You have no business being there anymore. Your true gold does not lie in the darkness of your past, but in the calm, secure light of your future. Keep walking forward.
