The lingering mother’s scent acts as a bridge between the physical world and the eternal sanctuary of our memories. In the quiet, fragrant gardens of my life in France, I often find myself transported back to that feeling of absolute safety. This sensory memory is more than just a passing thought. It is a profound internal architecture for a soul that carries its lineage in every breath. Understanding the power of a mother’s scent helps me process the tectonic shifts of loss while holding onto the warmth that never truly leaves. As a highly sensitive person, I cherish these invisible threads of connection and love. It turns old grief into a stable, Malachite peace. Within these sacred intervals, the spirit finally finds its authentic rhythm. We move from the pain of absence to the clarity of eternal presence.

The Scent of My Mother: A tender embrace of a mother and child enveloped in warm light, symbolizing eternal love and memory.

Miris moje majke

Miris njene kože još uvijek živi u meni.
Kad zatvorim oči, ona je tu —
prisutna, nježna, sigurna.
Bio je to miris bijele, meke kože,
topao i opojan,
miris koji grije dušu i srce.
Svaki zagrljaj nosio je taj miris,
svaki dodir bio je poput svjetlosti
koja prožima tamu.
Mogla sam ostati u njenom naručju satima,
disati taj miris, osjećati svaki dah,
dok svijet oko nas nije postojao
osim nje i mene.
dok bi me pokrivala dekicom.
Kako se miješao s blagim dahom njezine kože
i nježno obavijao svaki moj osjećaj sigurnosti.
Taj miris nije bio samo miris kože;
bio je miris ljubavi, sigurnosti i topline.
Bio je poput šapata koji govori:
„Sve će biti u redu.“
Sada, u tišini, dovoljno je da udahnem,
i miris se vrati —
poput nevidljive zagrljaja,
poput svjetlosti koja probija kroz tminu.
Sve brige nestaju pred tim mirisom;
sve tuge postaju daleka uspomena.
Miris moje majke nije nestao s njezinim odlaskom.
On je u svakom kutku mog sjećanja,
u svakom udahu.

Kad zatvorim oči, ona je tu.
I miris joj me podsjeća da ljubav ne umire,
da prisutnost ostaje čak i kad ruke nisu tu.

Cette odeur n’était pas seulement l’odeur de la peau ;
Tous les soucis disparaissent devant cette odeur ;

The Scent of My Mother

The scent of her skin still lives in me.
When I close my eyes, she is there —
present, gentle, safe.
It was the scent of white, soft skin,
warm and intoxicating,
a scent that warms the soul and heart.
Every hug carried that scent,
every touch was like light
permeating the darkness.
I could stay in her arms for hours,
breathing that scent, feeling every breath,
while the world around us did not exist
except for her and me.
I remember how the scent traveled through the room
while she covered me with a blanket.
How it mixed with the gentle breath of her skin
and gently wrapped around my every feeling of safety.
That scent was not just the scent of skin;
it was the scent of love, safety, and warmth.
It was like a whisper saying:
“Everything will be alright.”
Now, in silence, it is enough for me to breathe in,
and the scent returns —
like an invisible embrace,
like light breaking through the gloom.
All worries vanish before that scent;
all sorrows become a distant memory.
My mother’s scent did not disappear with her departure.
It is in every corner of my memory,
in every breath.

When I close my eyes, she is there.
And her scent reminds me that love does not die,
that presence remains even when hands are not there.
