My Life as a “Geologist of the Soul”: Between Salted Coffee and German Sausages
Being a geologist of the soul means finding beauty in the most unexpected places, even in a cup of salted coffee. They say that being a mineralogy engineer means you have an eye for precision. For fifteen years, I dealt with the structural integrity of crystals and the uncompromising logic of diamonds in Canada. You’d think that after a career like that, making a cup of coffee would be a simple task. Well, think again.
The other morning, while my brain was probably still wandering through some poetic metaphor, my engineering precision failed spectacularly. I was preparing my morning coffee, a vital ritual that jumpstarts my soul. I reached for the white crystals, measured them with focus, and stirred. One sip later, I realized that while all crystals might look similar, sodium chloride is definitely not sucrose. Yes, I salted my coffee. This moment of chaos reminded me that a geologist of the soul must embrace imperfection. True structural integrity is about how we handle the bitter and salty moments of our daily existence.
The Great Sausage Stand-off
In addition, the life of a geologist of the soul in a foreign country involves constant linguistic evolution. Living in France as an expat is a beautiful dream, until you get hungry for something very specific. Recently, I walked into a charming local épicerie trying to buy Frankfurt sausages. “Des saucisses de Francfort, s’il vous plaît,” I said, with all the confidence of a woman who has published five books. Unfortunately, I experienced a complete breakdown of my “French in progress.”
When my elegant phrases failed, I resorted to calling them “Germany kobasice.” The shopkeeper’s look of horror was a perfect example of cultural erosion. He looked at me as if I were describing a rock formation from Mars. By practicing the role of a geologist of the soul, I’ve learned to laugh at these diplomatic incidents. It is an essential part of my Geology of the Soul philosophy. Consequently, we learn to rebuild our identity after every misunderstanding.
The Art of Standing Still as a Muse
Finally, being a geologist of the soul requires immense patience, especially when acting as a “muse” for my husband. He supports my creative work by taking photos for my blog. However, his photography process is geologically slow. He treats a digital camera like it’s a 19th-century daguerreotype. Consequently, this turning of a simple smile into a volcanic eruption of internal frustration is inevitable. My smile starts to twitch, and my inner peace vanishes. “Just click it!” I hiss through teeth that are supposed to be smiling. He just adjusts the lens another millimeter, looking for the perfect light.
Yet, this beautiful chaos is exactly where the poetry lives. Between the “statue mode” and the “salted coffee,” I find the raw materials for my writing. Pisanje na Mediumu and accidentally salting my life keeps me human. Please visit my Malachite Peace section to find more harmony amidst the daily mess. Remember, you don’t have to be a perfect ten on the Mohs scale to shine. The best stories are always found in the cracks of real life.
Life reminds us that even an engineer can lose her way in a supermarket.
Keep the chaos, find the poetry.

Taj trenutak kaosa podsjetio me da geologinja duše mora prihvatiti nesavršenost.
Umjetnost nemicanja pred objektivom
On podržava moj kreativni rad fotografirajući me za blog. Moj osmijeh počinje podrhtavati, a unutarnji mir nestaje.
Pisanje na Mediumu i slučajno soljenje života drže me ljudskim bićem. Molim vas posjetite moju sekciju Malahitni mir kako biste pronašli više harmonije usred svakodnevnog nereda.
